Happy Birthday to this beautiful senior! Today I’m excited to share some of Mia’s gorgeous San Jose senior photos as we celebrate both her birthday and her incredible senior year.
Mia attends Presentation High School in San Jose and was one of my 2020 Amy Drake Photography Senior Ambassadors. I’ve had the pleasure of photographing her for the past four years as a member of the Presentation High School Dance Team, making this senior portrait session especially meaningful. It’s always rewarding to watch students grow over the years and then have the opportunity to document such an important milestone in their lives.
If you’ve visited my studio, you may already recognize Mia. She’s the dancer featured in the striking black-and-white jumping portrait displayed near the front entrance. That image has become one of my most talked-about pieces of artwork, and it’s easy to understand why. Mia’s beautiful technique, strength, and graceful movement create photographs that immediately capture your attention.
These San Jose senior photos include images from Mia’s Senior Ambassador session as well as a recent creative dance portrait we photographed in the studio when her dance team came in for a special artistic session. I always enjoy incorporating a senior’s passions into their portraits, and for dancers, that often means creating images that celebrate both their personality and their dedication to their craft.
For the outdoor portion of Mia’s Ambassador session, we explored downtown San Jose near San Pedro Square. After spending so much time photographing throughout Los Gatos, it was fun to return to some of my favorite San Jose locations. The colorful architecture, interesting textures, and vibrant atmosphere around San Pedro Square provided the perfect backdrop for a variety of modern senior portraits.
One of my favorite things about photographing seniors who are also dancers is blending those two worlds together. Dance naturally brings elegance, confidence, and beautiful movement into a portrait session, allowing us to create images that feel both artistic and authentic. Every senior has unique interests and talents, and incorporating those passions helps create San Jose senior photos that truly tell their story.
Being part of the Amy Drake Photography Senior Ambassador Program gives students the opportunity to enjoy multiple sessions throughout their senior year while helping represent the studio. It’s a wonderful way to build confidence in front of the camera, explore different locations, and create a collection of portraits that celebrate this exciting chapter of life.
Mia, thank you for allowing me to photograph you over the years and for bringing your positivity, talent, and creativity to every session. It has been such a joy watching you grow into the amazing young woman you are today. I hope you had a wonderful birthday and an unforgettable senior year!
